Week 5: Photo shoot Editing

From all the photos shown on my previous post of the photo shoot , this is my favourite photo. I uploaded the photo into Photoshop and played around with the effects. I used the black and white effect tool and then changed the contrast and brightness ect.
This could be a good photo to use for inside the digi pack on one the panels to show the band.
The image gives a thuggish look with the clothing and attitude of the facial expressions , the way we have standing we look laid back and relaxed as if we dont care. The image doesn't look set up , it still has that natural feel to the photo of the band.

Music Video Idea

Analysis

In this green screen analysis , i analysed Jay Z and Kanye West Digi Pack 'Watch the Throne' .

The task was to pick any Digi pack in the world  and use the green screen and verbally analysis the whole Digi Pack. With Kanye West being my favourite artist , i chose to talk about this Digi pack as I have a good understanding of kanye west and why he choose to do each panel like the way it has been ect, so i can talk about this digi pack confidently in detail.

Class Work : Music Record labels

Record labels are what sign the artist for a certain and genre and Audie. They hve the finical side to market and publish songs music videos and albums of the artist. In addition they scout talent to develop up and coming stars.

There are 3 major record labels 

WArner music group

Sony BMG

universal music group 

70% of the music in the charts are produced by these record labels

but also you have minor record labels 

These are smaller compines that operate without funding of the major three

They are know as the feeders for the major record labels. They scout many talented artist and then they end up getting sighened by the major record labels

There are advantages of the minor labels as they allow more freedom and less control over the music of the artists

In this blog post I be talking about Godiwns musical theory on music videos

firstly Andrew Godiwn stated that there is 5 key aspects of a music video that the audience look for:

1) thought beats - seeing the sound in your head

2) narrative and performance

3) star image

4) relation of visuals to the song 

5) technical aspects of the music video

Thought beats

The first step is as a audience and listener we take notice of the lyrical aspect of the song. The lyrics of the song and the choros.

Then we study the voice of the artist.

The unique or similarity about the voice. Arguably we can always recognise artist by their voice 

thirdly the artist mode of adress. This is the representation of both a story being told and someone singing along. Giving us two options and a more fulfiled expericne when watching.

Narrative and performance

Godwin stated that we tend to make up our own idea of tr messages being sent in a song from what it is about

Therefor he believes that the narrative and performance work together in order to keep the audience interested and not bored

In addition Godwin believes that mining is still most popular thing done in music visors but the artists try and make it look as real as possible.

Star image

This is a important attraction for the audience. The image cover what they wearing, personalty and there overall iconography. If the artist look attractive for the audience and match the concertins of their genre then the fans will  like them more and gain more attention

Relation of  visuals to a song

There are three ways 

Illustrate , amplify and disjuncture

Illustrate using images and video to illustrate the story's. 

Amplify The use of repetition of parts of video to stick it into our minds

Disjuncture  

Disjuncture - the meaning of the song is ignored by the video

History of Music Videos Firstly , what is the purpose of a music video? Arguably the purpose of a music video is to sell the song , and gain a reaction from the public. Furthermore , not just sell the song , but sell the artist. promote them through video.In addition, the music video can give a better experience for the audience so they can understand the song. All this purpose have developed through the help of technology. Technology allows film and music to be combined to improve the music industry. Week 5 :My Digi Pack Sketch

This is my initial drawing of my Digi Pack idea

First Panel ( top left) - In the first panel , this is my front cover. My front cover is going to be multiple images of the band both containing individual photos and photos  all together . The images will be taken on the same day.  I think in the images we will be performing in the studio recording. 

The images will be edited in black and white and the the background will be either white , grey or black.

 Second Panel ( top row , middle )  -  In this panel this is going to be my slot for the extras of the  DVD. There will be a pocket slot and the image on the pocket slot will be a natural photo of us in the studio recording music. The reason why I chose this image is because the meaning of the extra DVD is you get too see a documentary of the band recording music and what their life are like making music , so with a image of them recording music , this has a direct link into the DVD.

Third Panel ( Top Right ) -  This panel is just a photo of the band so you get a clear image of what they look like together. 

Fourth Panel ( Bottom Right ) -   

This is not going to be a image of the band but will be a photograph which indicates the lifestyle of the band and the type of genre they are. The photo will be of a old living room table with object on the table looking as if the boys have been there. 

Objects on the table will be as followed  , Cans of alcohol , ash tray , tobacco, roll ups , cigarettes , condoms ,  note pad for witting the lyrics. 

Fith Panel - ( Bottom , middle) -  This is the CD slot , where  on the CD 'Rogues Gallery' will be printed across with the O of 'Rogues' will be used for the gap in the middle of the CD. 

Sixth Panel ( Bottom Right) - This is the track listing page , the track listing will be a POV shot of a man holding the album showing the track listing and that will be used for the track listing page.

Digipak Analysis

In this power-point presentation , I individually researched into Digi paks to help get ideas for my own and get a understanding of  digi paks themselves.

Nirvana

Nirvana was the first Digi Pak I researched into due to I personally have this at home. From this Digi Pak I understood that digi paks are more than just a 'better version of album'. To the people who own the digi paks , they mean something to the fans. These digi paks are collectable items which many of the super fans collect and treasure. And that idea of something that is collectable and to treasure  for the fans , is a idea that i personally want to give to my fans  through my digi pak I will create.

The way Nirvana gives off that collectable feel for their fans is by keeping the Digi Pak in some sort of  container/box. This makes the digi pak feel that little more special for the fans for them to keep and go out and but. It also is unique as many other artist dont do this.

For my Digi pak , I will create and use this box idea , just like nirvana have done.

Rhianna 

In rhiannas Digi pack , it is dominated by a image of herself across the panels.
Images is something i will use on my panels in my digi pak. However , i will not cover images of us across my panels as i feel that the 'Rogues Gallery'  personalty and the genre of our music , is not the type to cover the digi pack in  images of the band . Personally , it will give off the wrong impression of the band if we put images of us on all panels , like rhianna has done , it seems more something pop would do , for exmaple for one direction it would work.
For a rock band , i feel like there should be a couple of images of us and that all , and the rest of the panels will be distinctive photos that symbolise us and the band through other images.

Kanye West & Jay Z

This digi pack  stands out and seems unique due to the lay out of the digi pack that jay z and kanye west have used. The layout is a cross , and personally i like the idea of using a unique layout than the typical panels just going acorss. It stands out and is different / un usual which is something i think will work for a band.

Kasier Cheifs

Just like nirvana digi pack. Kaiser Cheifs have used that box idea to store the digi pack inside of. This idea again is something i really do like and want to use for my digi pack.

Furthermore , with their digi pack , they give little additions with their digi pack , such as a poster , which could be a good idea i will like to use for my digi pack.

Take That

Just like i discussed about rhianna digi pack about covering the digi pack in images is something more pop than rock , is something take that have used here. I like the idea of having images of the band inside but i will not use it as much as take that have done , possibly only 2/3 photos of the band inside and that's all , as i don't want to look like a pop band.
