Q4
Question 4 how did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?
Media technologies was a method I used
in which helped in all three stages ( research , planning and evaluation) to
produce a music video.
Research:
The internet gave me access to
websites such as YouTube to look into other music video for our bands to help
with the research into the codes and conventions of what Indie Rock bands do in
their music videos. Google also allowed to research into other theories such as
Godwins Theory of music video so we can apply this to our music video and then
share it to my blog. Google also allowed me to research more into indie rock
bands, find out about their codes and conventions, and research into their appearance
ect so I could apply this to our music video. In addition, part of my research
consisted of myself getting feedback from my target audience and public to
ensure that I was working towards the best product I could. Social networking
allowed me get feedback online from my audience, posting drafts onto my
Facebook account , Twitter and YouTube allowed the public to see my product and
give me one to one feedback through comments. In addition, online websites such
as ‘surveymonkey’ allowed me to post questionnaires for people to fill out and
give me feedback. These feedback consisted of fonts, music video draft ect and
help me improve my digi pack, poster or music video.
Planning:
Media technologies allowed us to plan
in advance. The internet/Blogger was used to allow me to document my progress
and helped me keep my work organized and plan in advance in film shoots ect. In
addition, programmes such as Final Cut, allowed us to produce an animatic. This
animatic was made up of our song but showing our storyboard. This allowed us to
get a over view of how our idea would look along with the song and we presented
this to our class to get feedback on what they think.
Construction:
Media technologies was a vital to
create the music video and ancillary texts. From studying media for a certain
amount of time and producing work in AS, This enabled us to push boundaries and
produce a high piece of standard work due to knowing that we can literally do
anything with the media technology now available to us.
During the construction of our music
video, we filmed on a DSLR 500 , a high quality camera which enabled to use the
focus on the camera to produce a lens pull. This made our music video more
professional and at a high standard. Also using the iOS toll on the camera when
using the camera in dark areas to ensure that we are filming with the most
amount of light available to ensure that our music video is again professional
and not dark so you can see it. The addition of a tri pod enabled us to keep
our shots still and with the addition of the memory card being such as large memory
holder , enabled us to take as many shots as possible in different angels to
ensure we had back up material to our music video.
Programmes such as Final Cut Pro is
where the editing was mainly done. This enabled us to upload the footage and
put it together and then use tools such as cut to make the video fast paced and
adding the music to go with the video so it makes it easier to merge together.
From using media technologies on our research in producing the animatic and
researching other bands , we knew we had to make the video fast paced and quick
cuts. Final cut enabled us to do this. In addition , final cut also allowed us
to show the character growing up. We used the fade in tool , to do this as we
got the idea form the lion king. We wanted to get the message across quickly
and simply that the boy is growing up in age , and the cross fade enabled us to
merge both video clips together to give that effect.
In adition , final cut allowed us to
put our music video into black and white , a technique which we wanted to do as
it made our music video more dark and many indie rock bands use the black and
white effect tool for their music video. Furthermore , another software we used
was Adobe after effect to create the CCTV footage , this software was a
software we never used before , so researching into Youtube in how to use the
software and create a CCTV footage enabled us to actually do this as we wanted
our music video to be creative. Another media technology we used was mobile
phones , this media equipment allowed us to have lyrics on the screen for Harry
to see to ensure that when singing he was in time with the music and gave him confidence
as he can see the lyrics in front of him , meaning that he will give a high
standard performance.
Ancillary texts
For the ancillary texts , I used Photoshop
to create these. Photo shop was a
software in which I was familiar with and enabled me to create a poster and
digi pack. For my digi pack , Media technologies such as DLSR was what I used
to take photos of that to ensure that my photos was a high standard. It also
enabled me to be creative and unique and use the pull in focus . In addition ,
actually forming the products was done in photo shop. Photoshop enabled me to
make them black and white , a technique in which I used as it was going to be a
theme across all my media products. Furthermore , Photoshop enabled me
emphasize on the colour red. The colour red like mentioned before was a
important colour for my products and wanted to bring it out as much as possible
because of the meaning it as and it brings life to the black and white images.
Photoshop enabled me to do this , and bring out /play around with the darkness
of the black and white in the brightness and contrasts. Furthermore , website
such as DA Font enabled me to get fonts from online and conduct research to
which is the best for me to use.
Evaluation:
Media Technologies allowed myself , to
contrast an evaluation to evaluate my work as a whole. Evaluation stage enabled
me to used media technologies such as final cut pro to conduct a voice over to
produce my evaluation and images of screen shots to use as evidence to give the
audience an indication of what I am talking about.

Evaluation 2
2) How effective is the combination of your main product
and ancillary texts?
For my media coursework ,
along with a music video , I had to produce a digi pack and a poster
advertising the digi pack. In these I wanted to produce a product which is
consistent in communicating the genre and characteristics/personality of the
band with the audience. But also , produce a product which is unique and links
in with the music video.
For the digi pack I wanted
to express the image and genre of the band through the photographs. I didn’t
want the photos to look and come across like a pop band such as One Direction
and this is a element in which I didn’t want to come across in our music video.
Together, we wanted to drill into the audience minds that we are a Indie Rock
band through our appearance but with the Digi Pack , I also wanted to express the genre through
images that relate to our lifestyle through using image of alcohol and cigarette
which indicates our genre too. The font style I chose was from a website called
‘Da Font’ under the name ‘Piston Pressure’. This font was chosen due to the research
I carried out on similar bands such as Artic Monkeys. Bands go for a bold basic
font, but unique from different bands. This font is used for out band logo and
used the same font for the posters and digi pack so there is a strong link
between both. In addition, the more the public see the font , they will start
to establish the font with the band , gaining a strong recognition with the
public towards the band. I chose the colour black to mostly all the fonts , as
black is a colour that stand out most and is a colour that similar bands use.
They don’t go for nothing fancy or pop. Indie bands use dull/dark colours , so
I carried this over to my digi pack and poster. In addition , I used a dark red
on the poster for ‘out right now’ this emphasize and makes the statement stand
out from the poster to audience. In addition , the colour red Is a theme and
link through both ancillary texts. I choose to emphasize on the red as the
colour red is associated with indie bands , but it has a strong meaning behind
the colour. Red is assertive, daring, determined, energetic, powerful,
enthusiastic, impulsive, exciting, and aggressive. Red represents physical
energy, lust, passion, and desire. It symbolizes action, confidence, and
courage. The colour red is linked to the most primitive physical, emotional,
and financial needs of survival and self-preservation. These words associate
with the bands lifestyle and image and symbolizes their music also. Therefore ,
red was the perfect choice , it also bring life to the black and white edit ,
which is a theme running throughout my music video , digi pack and poster. A
message in which the band are trying to bring
life through their musical talent.
In my digi pack , I wanted to ensure
they I wasn’t a pop genre band and didn’t want to many images of the band like
one direction. I didn’t want the bands photos to look as if they was taken in a
photoshoot. I wanted photos of the band naturally, such as ‘The Kooks’ in their
albums and many others such as oasis and The Liberteens. This photo type are
used in other album and digi packs , I wanted to ensure I use these for my digi
pack.
For my front cover I choose to use a
collection of photos than just one photo. That’s because I wanted to be unique
and different. This is the bands first digi pack/ album , so I wanted to
express the success of the band through images of them out together enjoying
themselves. This gives a insight into the personality and the type of band we
are. In addition , close ups of the band members allows the audience to see the
members individually. This is linked in with the music video , as we use close
up there to show the appearance of all the band members so the audience have an
idea of all the band members.
My back over has a image of the band
looking out into London, showing a London land mark of tower bridge . This
image is a strong image , showing the location of where the band are from ,
giving a connection of the audience around where they came from , but alos show
them looking out chasing their dream and that this is only the beginning . Not
seeing their faces represent that they are not trying to sell their image but
selling their music and skilled talents.
For my inside panel , I linked in the
colour scheme again of black and white which goes along with the music video.
This link is used in music videos such as Kasabian club foot a common theme indie rock music videos , and
a theme in digi packs such as artic monkeys, this associates with our target
audience as these dark / dull targets appeal to male audience more , but the
darkness and our appearance appeals to more a adult target group such as 16 –
25 , such as students. In addition , for my inside panels I wanted to use
images that associate the band lifestyle portrayed negatively , therefor I used
images such as alcohol , smoking that
give this rebellious / negative lifestyle. This lifestyle is represented
slightly with the narrative of the music video in how dark it can be seen with
the fight scene with all the blood. As our band , we have a rebellious,
aggressive or just dark lifestyle and we wanted to show this. In addition , I
brought out the colours of the red to make the image more engaging and again
show that symbolise theme of the colour red throughout. In addition , to make
the image more engaging , I ensued that the cigarette was lit so I can capture
the smoke , this created a great edge to the photo and brings life to the
image. But in addition , on my
other inside panel , I used a image of the guitarist. This is a marketing tool
as this panel will change into a different band member with every one that is
released. This keeps the fans engage and exciting and makes our digi pakc feel
more special and collectable. This technique is used in other bands such as Nirvana
and Kiaser Chiefs .
For my CD panels , I wanted
again to be unique and different. Being unique is a strong representation , as
we want to be different. I decided to take this idea and turn the CD into two
products but are associated to the band. I chose to use a ash tray and beer Bootle
top. Again , I choose these objects as they can be easily turn t into the shape
of the CD as both round. But also , as they reflect the band image and have
that connection. To make it more engaging and fun and unique , I ensued that
the background linked in with the CD/DVD. So as you take the CD up behind on
the table is Rogues Gallery etched in , and behind the Bottle Top is a bottle
with the head of the beer frothing over the side. This is unique and links with
our target audience as this is associated with the youth . The DVD is a
marketing selling point including footage of the band , engaging the audience
to collect it and give the audience that behind the scenes experience with the
band.
The advert for my digi pack
still has a link. Looking into other adverts they do this through mainly having
their album cover as their poster. I decided not o to do this and put the image
in the corner of the album cover so everyone can see what it looks like for
selling purpose. But I decided to use an image of the band again looking out to
show the success of the band but also relates to the digi pack as all the image
I used where taken in a day out with the band. The main point of the poster is market
our band to the public and the type of image we are portraying through our
outfits, you can tell we our indie band. The social networking and website
links engages the audience to find out more about the band to market our artist
in different media social networking due to our target audience being a young
age , social networking is what they always use. The black and white image
effect links into the digi pack and video creating a recognition for the audience.
I am pleased with my digipak and advert
as I think they demonstrate both the conventions of these products, whilst
portraying my artist suitably.
Overall , my digi pack has a
link between and strongly shows the genre and the characteristics of the genre
through the appearance of the band in both. You can clearly see it’s a band and
their target audience is for more adults over 18 through the advertisement of alcohol
and cigarette. The colour scheme in both, and the type of band we are portrays
the rebellious/dark lifestyle the band have and empathize that the band main
selling point is not their image , its their skill in their music.
Final POSTER
This is my Final poster for my advertisement of my digipack. I chose to have the poster on the bottom right to show what it looks like for when people go to buy it. I choose to have the image dominating the age of the band. I didnt want the public to see the faces but to see them looking out into London ( showing where they are from) as it meant to come across them together looking out chasing their dreams , and in doing this they have done that. The clothing shows the indie side to them so the public have an idea of the music genre. In addition , the stars is for attraction purposes so the public can see how good it is. In addition , i have a red theme throughout my digi pack so it needed to link with this so the 'Debut album right now' needed to stand out for public to catch their attention so it links together. In addition for the fans that liked club foot the little advertisement includes what in the digipack and including a bonus DVD. With our target audience being the youth and young adults social networking is key because they always uses and increases the bands recognition so having these links is vital.
FINAL DIGI PACK
This is my final Digi Pack
Top Right ( CD PANEL) - This is my CD panel , as you can see I used an idea of using objects for my CD. I wanted to be unique and diferent , a theme in which the band is like and a theme i am trying to express in this digi pack. I took an image of the ashtray for my CD use and edited it in Photoshop. The image got very goo positive feedback. Also I ensured that the background image underneath linked in with the CD. Therefore , under the ashtray is an image of a table with Rogues Gallery etched in. This allows the audited to feel like they are putting the ashtray onto the table. I made the whole image black and white as that creates an indie feel but also is a link throughout the music video , poster and digi pack.
Middle Top (BONUS DVD)
This is my bonus DVD , where the fans can see interviews , the music video t club foot , behind scenes footage. I applied the same idea as the CD by choosing a method in which is unique and is a product. I chose to use the bottle top as the CD as that expresses the bands lifestyle and that is a link to the meaning behind the DVD as you get to see the bands lifestyle in that. In addition as you take the bottle top off the background is an image of the beer frothing , applying an interaction between the DVD and background making it unique and enjoyable for the audience. I made the image black and white for link purposes mentioned above and also applied the red theme on top due to red being a colour that is used through out my digi pack due what Red symbolised . It shows bands passion and love for music and also their rebellious /anger attitudes in the drinking and smoking.
Top left ( Inside Panel)
This is just an image of a guitar , the reson why i chose to have this is because firstly i didn't want the inside to consist of images of the band as i feel like that is what a pop genre band does they sell their image rather indie rock bands collaborate their image with their skill in their performance and talent. I wanted to be unique and create an idea which makes the digi pack a collectors item. This panel will release in different photo , 1 of the guitar , bass , drums and microphone. This is a method for the super fans to go out and interact and find these different digi pack , this method has been used by indie bands such as nirvana and kasbain where they bring out different versions for super fans to collect.
Bottom Left ( Inside Panel)
This image is again representing the bands lifestyle. The image contains drink and smoking which represent the band image and the bands name. Their are 4 bottles , one for each to represent the members of the band. This image is just to show the lifestyle and image of the band and represent the genre , to establish them-self as indie rock bands , the parka in background establish this too. The smoke effect makes the image look unique and exciting brings life to the image , which is something the boys are trying to do with their music , bring life through their music. In addition , i added a social networking links to this image as i felt this was a vial thing to have due to the target audience being between 16-25 , this means that they can find out more about the band and follow us gaining the bands recognition.
Bottom Middle ( Back Cover)
This is the track listing for my digi pack. The image consist of the band looking out to tower bridge. Tower bridge represents london , showing where the boys are from and with the band looking out in the distance shows they are achieving their dreams trying to reach their goals with this being their first digi pack. In addition , you can see the clothing so that establishes a bit about the genre of the band. In addition i ensured i had record label and bar-code for professional purposes.
Front Cover:
The front cover consist of images of the band in images that contain and represent all about themselves. With this being the first digi pack , they need to interact and show themselves and instead of one image , i liked the idea of having a montage of them. I wanted to be different and i feel like this really works.

Final Draft Box
This is my final draft of my Box , i wanted to be unique and create a box for my digi pack to be sorted in. I got the idea from other indie / rock bands like kaiser chiefs and nirvana. The box is a purpose to make the digi pack unique and personal to the fans that buy them . I waned my fans to get the same feeling so i created a box for the digi pack to be stored in. Similar to the digi pack front cover i felt it needed to be like the same so it fits/links together and doesn't look random. I took all the images that helped collaborate this progress/journey of the band and merge them all together , this is as you can say images that document the creation of the bands first packaging , making these images have a strong and powerful meaning to them , which i felt is a cool aspect just like the meaning behind the liberteens.

poster improvements
This is a draft of my poster to advertise my digi pack.
Firstly I wanted to choose a photo of the band , a photo which has the band members as they are a new band so people can have an idea of what they look like and the style of music through their clothing and appearance and a photo which shows what the band is about. But I didn't want to choose a photo that look like a pop band and set up. The reason I choose this photo is i feel it works perfectly . With the backs to the camera it not to revealing meaning that they focus on their music rather than selling their image. In addition with them releasing their first digi pack , they are looking out in the distance as if this is their dream and what they grew up doing , they able chasing the dream with them brought up in a working class family background . In addition with london being the background gives a indication of where the band are from and what they represent. With them not seeing a lot of the band , I gave the links to their social networking pages so this gives the audience a chance to visit them and finding more out about the band if they not heard them before. I also ensured the image was in black and white so it links in with my digi pack.
I applied two lots of 5 star rating in magazine in which I believe they would get reviewed in.
Nme
Q
These magazine are for bands like 'rogues gallery' so with the 5 star rating makes it that more appealing.
I applied the track listing so the audience can see all the tracks but really I might change it to just 'club foot' as it comes across as too much righting so people won't read it ".
I made then 'debut album out now' stand out in colour with a colour that is not to bright but dark and looks indie which i feel it does. But this colour was meant to follow my digi pack but I change the colour to red so i need to change this font to red to link with my digi pack.
Bonus DVD

This is my bonus DVD. I have used the image of the bottle as my background and got my CD as a bottle top lid. There is a video to show how the DVD panel works.
How I done it?
Firstly from my collection of photos of the drink I took a the best photo and opened it up in photoshop. To keep the black and white theme throughout my digi pack i applied the image effect of black and white and played around with the brightness and contrast to make it slightly more dark to give it more of a rough feel to the image.
Bottle cap
This is the difficult part. I took an image of a Budweiser bottle cap and added it into photoshop , here I cut round the image and then added the bottle cap logo which I created and showed in one of my previous posts. Next I merged both of them together to make it my background.
CD
With the CD I created previously I just applied that onto the panel photo and put it in the location it is want to be.
Overall
I am happy with this vs panel and I feel it follows my digi pack theme and style throughout with applying the colour red on the bottle cap. The idea of the bottle being the background and taking the bottle cap of as the CD works well and world well with the Other CD panel being the cigarettes. I feel this idea is a unique idea , being different. And that is something my band follows and the drink is a symbolisation of the theme and style of my bad. However the positioning of the photo is wrong as the DVD is too small so it need some work. I think I need to retake the photo again.

Back Panel 3 Final
This is my final back cover design I have created.
Firstly , from the feedback given in class from my peers. They brought up the focus of the image I used on my back panel. This image was taken not in focus , although i thought it gave off a more vintage and indie feel to the back panel , the research proved it didn't work as when printed off it wouldn't look right at all. However , the layout and design of the track listing was good which meant I can keep that design idea. This means all i have to do is change the image.
I choose this image of the band looking out London Bridge. I really like this image as again on the back panel I wanted the back to have an image of the bands backs looking or going somewhere. As with this being their first band album/digi pack. This is them walking / thinking towards their dreams. This image with london in the background establishes the bands background with them being a london band brought up in a familiar area. The costume are noticeable with the parkas and jeans establishes the inide image we are trying to get across. I made the image black and white so it goes along with the rest of the digi pack and music video , giving a vintage and indie feel to my digi pack. I carried the rest of the design over from the feedback given mentioning the digi pack is fine just the photo needs changing.
Overall , I am happy with this outcome as with the image being more clear and in focus , grabs the audience attention and makes the digi pack look much more professional.

BONUS DVD
This is my new and improved bonus DVD. The reason for the improvement again is because i have got the right idea , i am just not using it right. Like mentioned in my last digi pack , the image behind the bottle cap is not working due to the size measurement not adding up with the size of the DVD. This means that i needed to change the photo behind the bottle cap which i did so. As you cant see the image , the image is shown bellow but change to black and white. The reason i chose this image is it links in with the fact that when you take the bottle cap off , your drink froths up causing it to spill and in my opinion i feel like this suits my digi pack as its expressing the lifestyle of the band , and follows that theme throughout. I want my digi pack to be unique and difference something that the audince enjoy and get engage with , and i feel like this panel works in doing so.
Editing Music Video
Editing the CCTV scene. We used the adobe after effect do this and use this youtube video to know how to do this. We struggled in doing this as we didn't know how to do it but the access of youtube allowed us to do this. We had to get a CCTV background and merge it into this clips and We then uploaded the clips to final cut pro were we made the clips black and white to fit along with the whole theme of the music video. The point of the CCTV is to make it exciting and unique but also show voyeurism which is part of godwins theory.

Video Shoot 3: Crystal Palace
Video Shoot 3 - Crystal Palace Park
In this video shoot we filmed our remake to the rocky running scene shown below at the bottom of this post. We used this as a reference for our music relating Charlie s training scene to being similar to rocky. We thought it would be a cool idea to remake the famous running scene up the stairs so the audience if they watch the film before , can notice the reference we made.
Location:
We got given a recommendation of a similar area in which looks like the stairs Rocky used. We need the stairs to look like the ones they used so the reference can be more clear for the audience to notice. We found the perfect stairs and they where the stairs at Crystal Palace Park( shown below). From our research of the stairs around our areas , it was torn between these stairs and the stairs at the Nation Art Museum. We chose these stairs due to their being a less amount of people , making it easier for us to film.
We got the train and the journey planner above shows how we got there and the route we took.

Equipment:
The equipment we used was the following:
Review of the filming:
Overall , the filming of re creating the rocky scene actually worked well. We had the rocky clip up on our mobile phones so it made it easier for us to follow how they filmed it as we filmed it from shot to shot. Of course , it was difficult to make it spot on due to when filming rocky they would of had the best equipment around so we had to work with what we had. For example , there is a close up of rocky running and the camera is following him. However , we didn't have a camera or equipment to be able to follow charlie smoothly without the camera shaking. But we done it to the best we could of and it turn out to look better than i thought it would be. We feel that this is a great idea for our music video , as music video do make reference , weather its from a film , other artist ect. So to fit in a reference , make the music video more interesting and fun for the audience when they see it.
Results:
We uploaded the rocky scene to the internet to get feedback and to see if people can guess the reference and as you can see from our results it went perfectly.

The costume charlie wore was the same he been wearing in the whole music video. We wears a grey tracksuit as that is the training gear which is used when you do sporting activities. In addition , the grey tracksuit helps with the recognition of the rocky scene as he is wearing a grey tracksuit too , making our rocky recreation more similar and noticeable.

Video shoot - band peformance
From our research we carried out , we noticed that indie bands music video have some band performance in their music video. This is because I believe they want to share and show their skills they have as it's their music they sell not that much focused on their image like pop music. Therefor we wanted to have a band peformabce element in our music video. To decide who goes with what position , from the photos we took of us in different roles and the results we got back showed us that this was the Perfect set up.
Booking
This week we had to book the drama room and book the equipment from the music department bellow are emails conferming both we also booked it for an additional 2 more weeks infront.
In this music scene we just done the first verse as we feel it be easier to break it down by with each session with a verse.
We went through the song many if times as we wanted to get the verse done in as many different shots and angels as possible. Firstly we focused just on close ups of the lead singer and what heels is having the lyric and song playing for him on the imac. Next we done individual shots of the band members such as the drummer guitarist and base. We struggled on how to perform the instruments as we don't play them and we know it need to look realistic. We don't abit of research before hand but we still struggled but done it to the best we would but it was difficult. Finally we done wide shots of the whole band. The reason we done so many of everyone is because in band performance scene they are cut short to be exciting and fast paced to go with the music , they are a band so they need to show everyone , so we had to cover the performance in all aspects and angles.
Location
Drama hall
Equiptment:
Drums
Base
Microphone
Guitar
Tripod
DSLR
IMac
Costumes:
Skinny jeans ,
White t shirts
Shirts
Jackets
Shoes
Tattoes
Overall I am happy with this performance I feel like we done the best we could be being it is our first time we could do better next time , as we was wasting time in trying to figure what shots to do. We looked at music videos as we was there to give us more ideas so that enabled us to work better next time as we got a more undertanding. The drama hall was perfect as it was black and had the lighting so we played around with that to give it the best effect we could.

Inside Panel
This is only a slight change but I added the social networking sights . After looking at my digi pack and then looking at real life ones , i felt something was missing. And i noticed i haven't got no fan interaction links for them to check out. With my target audience being young , i felt it would be a great idea to put the bands social networking sight in their. This allows the fans to check out the social network pages and either like or follow them to interact and gain the band more recognition and also a chance for the public to find out more.I also got the images/logo to be red so it goes along with my red theme.

video shoot 5 band performance
In the second band performance shoot , we carried on with us perfomaning but in the second verse.
This verse had singing and a guitar solo we. Again we took the same process as before and Filmed everyone individually and together from different angels to ensure we had enough footage. We wanted to stick to Godwins theory of visuals and music and applied this through the singing and the instruments being played at the same time. We didn't want the same shots as before as we done some more from different angles and technique such as out focusing and focusing in.
In addition we created our own dolley through using this wooden platform with wheels as our dolley so we could push it around and get some good shots. We used this for the guitar solo as we came in on Charlie playing the guitar and then coming back round to the rest of the band. This idea was brilliant as we would now do different shots we couldn't do before and the camera would be kept still. We used this to our advantage and used it on the lead singer by doing a 180
Degerees movement around him.
Instruments:
Guitar

Microphone
Drums
Costume:

Woden platform with wheels as a dolly
Overall I am happy with this as with the addition of the dolly enabled to use to use a more range of different techniques making our music video more exciting which it should be. In addition we followed the conventions of our genre and god wins thoery. Once editing we our hoping the results are really good.

Editing the video Transformation scene
For our transformation scene , we edited this is in final cut pro. We want the transformation scene to be quick and easy for the audience to see so we applied the cross fade effect like shown in the image. This is to show the transformation in age from the young charlie to the older charlie and again made the video black and white as that is a theme throughout.

front cover of special edition box
This is my front cover so far for my box. The reason I am making a box is for the digi pack to be stored in. I want my digi pack to be special to my fans just like other indie bands have done such as kasier chiefs and nirvana. I wanted to do the same and make it feel that special. In addition , just like the liberteens , i wanted to take the idea of having a strong meaning of the image of the cover and have a strong image here of these photos are documenting the progress of creating and putting together the music video and digi pack . Creating a bond between the audience and digi pak , making it feel like a collators item and special to the individual.
video shoot 6 fight scene

This shoot was for the fight scene and was a challenging piece to do and very time consuming and planning. We firstly planned a list of the essentials we need for the blood for the music video so it makes it look rough and realistic. We went shopping and got golden syrup and red food dye , water , spoons and bowels.
On the day of the filming we arrived early in the morning to corohprpah the fight scene. Take it through step by step from the entrance to the end as when edited , it all needs to fit toghether which can be challenging as we will be using a lot of different shots so it needs to work. Some images above show matt and Charlie corographing the fight scene.
Once the corohprpahing was done and we decided it worked and was happy we started to film. We started from the entrance of Charlie and then from the boys entrance. We wanted the fight scene not to look set up and look as of they just dumped into each-other. Charlie had to be betrayed as the underdog so he was by himself , looking vunrable due to the beging of the music video he was getting bullied by the same person when they was younger. We choose the outfit of matt ( bully) to be black to portray him as the villain and Charlie in grey/white as the hero.
We did find it difficult through out the filming as due to it being a public place , people was walking past now and then.
When entered we wanted the fight to take place under the bridge but due to lighting difficulties we couldn't do this as it was to dark so we changed it to the be done just outside the bridge.
The underpass/ bridge worked well as this gives a indication of the working class background of the characters and the type of are he was brought up in , the underpass looked scary and run down which made it a perfect location for a fight scene to take place.
To ensure the audience new the bully was the same person when they was younger , we ensured they wore similar clothing from when they was younger to make it clear but also we used rigid collideon to put a scar on his face. We used an exteme close up on the face for this scene so you can clearly see it and we will do it again for the flash back at the begining. We also used the same location too and actors which slightly look alike.
Location:
Underpass/ bridge
Characters
Charlie : older Charlie
Matt : bully
Daniel: bullies friends
Liam : bullies friends
Charlie: camera man
Harry: camera man
Props:
Syrup
Reds food dye
Water ( all used for fake blood)
Rigid collideon( for the scar)
Equipment:
DSLR
Tri pod
Overall we ensure we made this perfect by doing the corohprpahing which I del payed off as this enabled us to get a rough idea and go in not all guns blazing. That plan structure is what made I that more professional and realistic and easier to edit later in. We feel the location was perfect and represented the image of the working class background well and the clothing and scar represented the characters well. The shots we used too enabled us to show Charlie as the dominant and powerful through low angles and matt as the weak character through high angels. We feel this scene was planned and came out perfectly

Video Shoot 4 (gym scene)
This week we had a schedule in to film the gym scene.
The footage
In this scene , Charlie (younger)would
Be training by using a punch bag and Press ups . We also filmed (Charlie ) older version on the punch bag, press ups and weight training.
Location
The location of the gym is in the back garden garage of Charlie's house. This location worked well due to it fits in with the working class background of how Charlie got brought up. He never went to an actual gym centre , just trained in his garage. The inside of the garage worked well as it had all thenessentials that would of been in their such as boxing bag , weights , pads gloves ect. But also some junk in the background which adds to the working class background , we couldn't move the stuff anyway so we had to work with what we had.
Change of plan
During the video shoot we believed that this could be the perfect time to do the transformation scene. This is because of we had to change how we done the transformation scene because we couldn't get the equipment we needed such as a steady cam or trolley. This essentials where needed but we couldn't get them so we thought thets just use the boxing bag and edit it in photoshop to change and show the older version of Charlie boxing instead.
Props
Punch bag
Weights
Boxing gloves
Costume
Grey tracksuit
Roles
Freddie (1st generation)
Charlie ( 2ng generation )
Harry(camera man)
Daniel(camera man)
Charlie ( camera man)
Equiptment:
Tripod
DSLR
Overall from the footage I have seen I feel we have done well with the surrounding we had. We had little room to move round which we found challenging but we done the best we could. We got enough footage to cover both generations of Charlie and used a range of different activities to ensure we had enough such as weights , press ups ect to use incase something don't work. The lighting was fine due to luckily the light was directly below so when changing to black and white their shouldn't be a problem. In addition , it is revealing to get one of the main scenes done , the transformation scene of first generation Charlie to the older version. This was a main part of our Music video so we needed it look clear that they are the same person and done this by wearing the same colour clothes and same tracksuit type. We need to see what it looks in editing to clips together but I feel like it should work well.
Photos
As you can see from the photos below this shows the location we was using and shows the actions and equipmetemt and props we we was using too.
